Make sure to allow your item(s) to batch for at least 24-48 hours before washing out, ideally in a warm spot of 70° or higher (for lower temperatures, allow the items to batch for the full 48 hours). This gives the dye a chance to properly bond to the fibers, resulting in a quicker wash out and more vibrant colors.
Begin rinsing your item with COLD water to flush out any remaining soda ash and prevent the dyes from bleeding or "back staining" the fabric. Squeeze out the garment, taking care to avoid "wringing" the fabric to avoid damaging the fibers. Continue this process until the water begins to run clear.
Remove the bands/string and continue rinsing, gradually increasing the water's temperature to hot, until the water runs clear.
Fill your washing machine with hot water and add a low-pH soap (like blue Dawn), approximately 2 teaspoons per garment being washed (maximum 6-8 shirts per load). Place items into washing machine one at a time and run. Dry on low.
For better results, we also recommend to follow the care directions as stated below.
Always wash your tie-dye items in COLD water with like-items. Hot water could cause the item to fade or even bleed on other fabrics. Hand-washing is ideal, but who has time for that?
DO NOT use bleach or other stain-treating solutions, fabric softeners, or even dryer sheets when you launder your items, as the chemicals can dull or even fully remove the dye. Low pH laundry detergents are recommended.
Lastly, if you choose to dry your tie-dye item in the dryer, dry on LOW heat. However, hanging the item to dry indoors (sunlight will fade the dye) is the best option.
We use high-quality “fiber-reactive procion dyes,” which are vibrant, safe, and permanent! Our garments have gone through a rigorous wash-out process, but it is still a good idea to wash your “Give-it-a-Try!” merchandise at least once before wearing.
Most of our clothing falls into general “unisex” sizing, but occasionally we source our blanks (the items we dye) from different vendors to ensure a consistent supply. We’ve included the brand and the measurements (laid flat) of the items when possible.
Please note that a few of our items are upcycled, so the sizing may be specific to only that garment. Always review the description of each item carefully, as all sales are final.
To help rescue garments from landfills, we’ll occasionally peruse our local thrift stores for unique items we can transform. We opt for white 100% cotton items, as this holds the dye the best, and we can fully sanitize the item before we customize it. Upcycled items are truly one-of-a-kind and cannot be replicated.
Please note, due to the item’s upcycled nature, the fabric may sometimes include defects. If so, this will be fully detailed in the product description. Always review the description of each item carefully, as all sales are final.
